Grimes has publicly defended her ex-partner Elon Musk’s 20-year-old transgender daughter, Vivian, following Musk’s controversial statements about her.
On Thursday, the singer took to social media to express her unwavering support for Vivian, writing on X, “I love and am forever endlessly proud of Vivian.” This post came after Musk, 53, attracted widespread attention for his comments about Vivian, alleging that she was “killed by the woke-mind virus.”
In a recent interview with Dr. Jordan Peterson, Musk referred to Vivian using her deadname and claimed he was coerced into signing documents for her gender reassignment surgery. He suggested that there was significant confusion around the decision and that Vivian was at risk of suicide if she did not proceed with the surgery.
During the same interview, Musk vowed to combat the so-called “woke-mind virus” and claimed to be making progress in that fight. In response, Vivian addressed Musk’s comments on Threads, the platform owned by Mark Zuckerberg, stating, “I look pretty good for a dead bitch.”
Vivian refuted various claims Musk made, such as her allegedly picking out clothes for him at age 4 and being obsessed with musical theater. She also clarified that she was the one who distanced herself from him, asserting, “He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he simply wasn’t there. When he was present, I faced relentless harassment for my femininity and queerness. As for whether I’m a woman… sure, Jan. Whatever you say. I’m legally recognized as a woman in California and disregard the opinions of those beneath me.”
Musk disclosed in October 2022 that he and Vivian were estranged, shortly after she underwent a legal name and gender change. He acknowledged the rift, saying, “Can’t win them all,” while emphasizing his strong relationships with his other children.
Musk, who has 12 children in total, shares Vivian and her twin brother Griffin, along with triplets Saxon, Kai, and Damian, 18, with his ex-wife Justine Wilson. They also had a son, Nevada, who passed away at 10 weeks old in 2002. Musk has three children each with Shivon Zilis and Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher. Grimes, who had an on-and-off relationship with Musk from 2018 to 2022, gave birth to son X AE A-XII and welcomed daughter Exa via surrogate in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The couple has yet to share details about their third child, Techno.
